Inside Sulo Villa
Our story

Mother's love in the name

Sulo Villa carries the name of Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela, one of India's foremost pioneers in obstetrics, gynaecology and IVF( Invitro Fertilization) — the first Test-Tube baby in South India was her contribution to the country, among many other firsts.

Sulo Villa built by her daughter Dr. Madhavi N Gunasheela, a physician and an author, has named it in the loving memory of her mother.

A traditional laterite-and-clay-tile home on the quiet shore of Malpe, has been created to feel less like a hotel, and more like a home.

A doctor's attentiveness to detail, and a writer's eye for creativity shaped this home.

This is a coastal house where guests are looked after like family, and the days are dictated by the tide.

"Sulo" once meant comfort to countless families — and now it means comfort by the sea.

A legacy of care

Five decades of pioneering medicine

In 1975, Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr.M Gunasheela co-founded the Gunasheela Surgical and Maternity Hospital. She pioneered laparoscopy in South India in 1978, achieved South India's first IVF birth in 1988, and built an institution that has since cared for more than 2.7 lakh families — celebrating its Golden Jubilee, 50 years, in 2025. It is this legacy of trust and heartfelt care that Sulo Villa is built upon.
